Niagen Bioscience reported second-quarter 2026 net sales of US$29.8 million as the healthy-aging company continues expanding its nicotinamide riboside (NR) platform beyond dietary supplements into telehealth and pharmaceutical applications.
Tru Niagen, the company’s flagship NAD+ supplement brand, generated US$24.2 million in sales during the quarter. Direct-to-consumer sales through the company’s website increased 23% year over year.
Niagen Bioscience reported a gross margin of 64.8%, net income of approximately US$1.0 million and adjusted EBITDA of US$3.0 million for the quarter. The company ended June with US$66.7 million in cash and cash equivalents.
Overall second-quarter sales declined approximately 4% from US$31.1 million during the same period in 2025. For the first six months of 2026, net sales were US$61.3 million, compared with US$61.6 million during the first half of 2025.
The company expects its e-commerce business to grow between 10% and 15% for the full year. However, Niagen said its ingredient business is expected to be lower than the previous year as some commercial partners face a more competitive market. The company expects to add additional ingredient partners in the near term.
One of the most significant developments is Niagen Bioscience’s expansion beyond its traditional dietary supplement business. The company launched the Niagen Plus telehealth platform and introduced an at-home injection kit containing pharmaceutical-grade Niagen.
Niagen has also established a pharmaceutical development program centered on NAD+ biology. In July, the company introduced NB4168, a proprietary investigational oral small molecule designed to provide substantially greater nicotinamide riboside exposure than conventional NR.
The initial development program is targeting Ataxia-Telangiectasia, a rare genetic disease. NB4168 has received Rare Pediatric Disease designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Orphan Medicinal Product Designation from the European Medicines Agency. Niagen has engaged Evotec to conduct preclinical and IND-enabling studies expected to begin during the third quarter of 2026.
The company also renamed its ChromaDex External Research Program as the Niagen Research Program, reflecting its broader focus on research involving NAD+ and its proprietary Niagen ingredient.
CEO Rob Fried described the company’s strategy as an evolution from a nutritional supplement company toward what Niagen Bioscience considers a multi-asset healthy-aging business, with consumer supplements providing an important commercial foundation for investment in telehealth, pharmaceutical development and other growth opportunities.
What this means for the dietary supplement industry
Niagen Bioscience’s strategy provides an interesting example of how a science-based dietary supplement ingredient can potentially develop into a much broader commercial platform. Niagen began primarily as a proprietary nicotinamide riboside ingredient and consumer supplement business, but the company is now attempting to extend its NAD+ expertise across supplements, pharmaceutical-grade products, telehealth and investigational therapeutics.
This strategy could further strengthen consumer and industry awareness of NAD+ and healthy-aging products, potentially benefiting the broader category. At the same time, Niagen’s expectation that its ingredient business will decline in 2026 because some commercial partners are facing increased competition illustrates the increasingly competitive environment surrounding NAD+ precursors and other healthy-aging ingredients.
The continued 23% growth of Tru Niagen’s direct-to-consumer business is also notable. It suggests that consumer demand for established healthy-aging supplement brands remains resilient even as competition increases and Niagen invests in applications extending beyond conventional dietary supplements.
For ingredient suppliers, Niagen’s evolution demonstrates the potential value of combining proprietary ingredients, intellectual property, human research, branded consumer products and longer-term pharmaceutical development. As healthy aging and longevity become increasingly important global consumer-health categories, companies capable of building scientific platforms around differentiated ingredients may have opportunities extending well beyond traditional supplement applications.
